Product focus: Biologique Recherche P50 1970

Hi lovelies!

In this post I want to talk about my holy grail product known to most as “facial in a bottle“. P50 1970 is the original formulation of a balancing toner from the french line Biologique Recherche. I have been using it for 3 years now and it’s an absolute must-have in my skin care routine.

When I was introduced to P50, my skin was quite unmanageable and breakout prone. I started using P50 daily Am and PM and I saw my skin change in front of my eyes. It is true that for the first couple weeks/month the skin goes through the purging stage and it is very important to not discontinue the use of the product. Within a month my stubborn blackheads ( I call them underground soldiers:)) began to surface and I noticed my complexion getting more even. 6 month later almost all the imperfections were gone. By that time,I was a P50 convert!

Now, 3 years later, I cannot live without my P50. I get compliments on my glowing skin on a daily basis and I attribute it to my “magic potion“!

Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 1970 is a true cult favorite! It is a gentle, all-in-one toner, balancer and exfoliating lotion; helps speed up the epidermis’ natural exfoliating process and the reconstruction of the epidermal shield. Lotion P50 gently exfoliates, regulates excess sebum secretion, moisturizes and helps maintain a balanced acid PH. Active ingredients include lactic acid, salicylic acid and phenol.

Here are just some of the benefits:

  • Exfoliates, hydrates and purifies skin
  • Excellent to treat adult acne

How to use: 

  • Use twice daily (morning and evening) after cleansing your face.
  • Moisten cotton pad with P50 lotion.
  • Start with your decollete and move upwards gently pressing the cotton pad over skin.

Luckily for all, P50 comes in multitude of variations to cover all of the skin types and conditions. I recommend starting with the original formulation or getting a customized assessment/advice from a professional! Either way, you would love it! P50 will change your life the same way it changed mine 3 years ago.

My grocery list must-haves

Happy hump day, world!

Now that I have made the commitment to eat healthier, it seems that my grocery list has changed drastically. I see the improvement in what I eat and how often I eat. First lesson I’ve learned years ago is that we tend to stick to better diet when our fridge is stocked up with more nutritionally valuable options. Lets face it, when you don’t have potato chips staring at you from your cardboard, you don’t really crave it! This is one of the main reasons my husband and I prefer making one big grocery run every 2 weeks to replenish all the necessities instead of nightly grocery/restaurant/take out trips. Couple times a week we make a small local store stop for occasional dinner cravings and guinea pig treats restock. food-vegetables-italian-restaurant

So what items make up our usual grocery list?

  • San Pellegrino sparkling mineral water. We gave up soda couple years ago but craving for bubbles is always strong and this satisfies it very well
  • Farm fresh eggs
  • Nishiki rice for our awesome rice cooker that we use couple times a week to make nutritious dinner rice bowls
  • Wild caught salmon filets
  • Health Warrior chia bars and Luna bars, always a flavor variety. Works wonders as a midday snack and late night treat
  • Honeycrisp apples – favorite kind of all times
  • Seasonal veggies and fruits. Bell peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes on vine, scallions, lettuce, asparagus, mushrooms, pineapple,berries, pears make the basket. Most produce scraps get shared with guinea pigs because they do enjoy treats as well 🙂berries
  • Himalayan salt pop corn, mexican tortilla chips and mild salsa are some of my favorite in between meals snacks
  • Siggi’s plain yogurt. I usually get about two large tubs and use it to make my customizable snack jars or smoothies. This Icelanding-style yogurt rich in protein and probiotics and low on sugars. I definitely prefer it to most grocery store options muesli-breakfast-food-cornflakes-40725

Some weekly naughty treats include but not limited to:

  • Gnocchi
  • Artisan pasta
  • Mozzarella and smoked aged gouda cheeses
  • European sweet and savory treats. Couple times a month we make it out to European grocery store. I will make sure to share my european must-have groceries with you soon!
  • Red wine. Since our trip to Spain, we like discovering good Spanish wine at the store. Today I was lucky enough to find two bottles of Rioja wine from Logrono, the town we visited and lovedrestaurant-love-romantic-dinner

the Travel Itch

As I am sitting here, drinking my homemade latte and checking latest social media updates, I notice an interesting message from a dear friend of mine. In light of today’s snow(FINALLY!!!ALL THE SNOW LOVERS REJOICE!!!), she requested her friends to share what cities we follow on the weather app. I tend to track my homeland, some cities I’ve been to and cities I am planning to visit early this year. We both were amazed how similar our future travel aspirations are, and in this post I would like to share some of the places I would love to see or, as I call it, my “travel itch” top destinations.

Patagonia

Because why not? And who doesn’t like penguins?! And snow! And breathtaking nature sights! And yes, I am talking the southern end of South America and not the clothing brand! 🙂 Argentina and Chile both share the region and with Andes mountains and grasslands and deserts and penguins, did I mention penguins yet,- It’s no surprise it makes the top of my list. img_1794

Argentina and Uruguay

By now you must’ve figured out my obsession with South America. Both Argentina and Uruguay have amazing soccer teams that me and my husband tend to follow closely during the World Cup. Well, he is obsessed with Argentina and I always thought Uruguayan men are super hot, so there is my reason. 🙂 Argentina is huge-8th largest country in the world!   It is multicultural with European influences and I would love to visit street galleries, see tango and jazz performances in one of Buenos Aries theaters, consume empanadas and drink lots of Malbec! I am sure my husband would like to catch a football game or two!

Uruguay is much smaller than Argentina but nevertheless, it fascinates me. It’s one of the most social developed and liberal nations in the world. I ought to discover it for myself! Architecture, gaucho performances, carnivals, mate, endless beaches and close proximity to Buenos Aires makes it a must visit when in South America. img_0001

Iceland

Volcanoes, gazers, hot springs, lava fields and glaciers! Do I need to add more? Nah… Iceland, unlike the destinations above, would not be a long trip. The country itself is pretty small but so picturesque! I’d love to visit some viking museums, see Northern lights, relax at heavenly Blue Lagoon… I am aware that all the places I mentioned so far are heavy on cold climate, but it doesn’t scare me! Fall and winter are my favorite seasons for a reason. img_1796

These are just the top of my list and the list itself is very very long. I do hope to be able to visit at least half of the places in my lifetime: all of the countries in the Western Europe, Northern Europe and some in Eastern Europe; I am facinated by Africa and woudlnt mind checking out the New Zealand and most countries is Asia. What destinations make up your travel list? Do you track the weather in your favorite cities like my friend and I do?

I strongly believe that if you are open and willing, travel will make you an incredibly more well-rounded human being. Adventure helps you move forward, develop meaningful relationships, learn new languages and new skills. Travel gives you that unique perspective on the current world and, overall, shapes you into a better person.

For the sake of this modern and ever changing world, get out there and travel!

 

 

Tried and true: homemade exfoliation hacks

Hi lovelies!

Winter is here and our skin is a mess: dry, itchy, flaky… We have to show our skin a little TLC! I learned the hard way that exfoliation is the key to keep the skin nourished and moistuized. In this post, I decided, it is a good time we start sharing some homemade secrets for beautiful, hydrated and glowy skin!

FOR DRY LIPS:

  • mix brown sugar with honey(2 to 1). Use this blend to gently scrub your lips for about 4-5 min. Follow up with generous application of Aquaphor or your favorite hydrating lip balm.
  • we all go home with the basic toothbrush/floss set from our dentist after each visit. Why not put it to good use! I recommend to gently massage dry lips in the shower using a simple toothbrush. Brush bristles help to loosen up dry skin and your lips look and feel instantly smoother!

FOR DRY SKIN(body):

  • mix coffee grinds, brown sugar and sea salt with almond oil or coconut oil(1/4 cup of each). Generously scrub your body in the shower and be amazed at how soft your skin feels afterwords. Dont drink coffee? Try mixing epsom salts with avocado oil and add couple drops of  your favorite essential oil for an extra relaxing spa-at-home time.
  • try dry brushing! I thought it was a myth until I gave it a try myself and I do see the difference. For the lack of the body brush, I was using my Clarisonic Body and I love it. Do it before shower, use upward circular motion and always make sure to moisturize after!

FOR DRY SKIN(face):

  • try the at-home avocado face mask! We all have that dilemma of an over-riped avocado,- put it to a good use!  Mash together 1/2 fully ripened avocado, 1 tbsp plain yogurt and 1 tbsp honey. Apply evenly all over your face and relax for 15-20 min.
  • one of my favorite homemade exfoliants is honey and oatmeal cleanser. 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 2 tbsp of honey and couple drops of tea tree oil are mixed together until the consistency is right. This cleanse is a great way to combat occasional breakouts, reduce inflammation and moisturize the skin. I prefer this exfoliating cleanser to the baking soda trick.

These simple skin care recipes are easy to make and ingredients would not break the bank! Nourish and pamper your skin at home after a long day at work, or, even better, invite girlfriends in and do it together.

Backpacks are here to stay

I was born in Eastern Europe, the part of the world where fashion didn’t really exist beyond the convenience and everything people owned was a need and not a want. Growing up in post-USSR era, trends started to appear more and more and people’s obsession with luxury grew. I would never forget the time in elementary school when everyone wanted to have a faux leather backpack! The choices seemed endless: Grainy leather, patent leather, D&G logo, fancy patch work… oh my! I had to have one myself and was fortunate enough to receive one from my parents as a christmas gift. Let me tell you, I loved that backpack more than anything!

Trends in fashion are always repetitive so it’s not surprising that backpacks are back and stronger than ever. Why not? With ease and comfort and array of styles, it is not at all surprising!

Hershel backpacks are awesome and so are the Fjällräven. However, I wanted to see what else was out there. I fall in love with Everlane years ago and the San-Fran based company sure does offer awesome and well-made fashion. I have my eye on their commuter backpack and I will be getting me one soon!

Skin care regiment basics

I get asked about skin regiment that is good for any skin type and condition quite often. In my first skin care related post I would like to share my take on the appropriate, easy-to-follow ritual with you!

When it comes to skin care routine, it is important to follow four basic steps:

  • CLEANSE
  • TONE
  • MOISTURIZE
  • PROTECT

It is essential to cleanse skin morning and night. I prefer to use milky, gentle cleanser because it is less abrasive on the skin, leaving your lipid shield/moisture barrier intact. Another good habit to develop is to double cleanse at night-time; first cleanse is for the removing of all the makeup and debris and second cleanse is beneficial for purifying the pores. I tend to make people laugh when it comes to my favorite cleansing tool, a wash cloth, but believe me, our grandmas had “good-looking skin secrets ” and this is one of them!

When it comes to the second step of the routine, some people would disagree on the importance of it, but I do believe restoring the balance of the skin is imperative for the overall skin health. After cleansing, it is critical to bring that healthy PH back,- and that is the job of the toner.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! AM and PM without exception! It doesn’t matter if you have oily, dry or combo skin, make sure to layer an appropriate moisturizer right after the second step. Hydration is what allows the skin to function at peak performance. Moisturizer repairs and  protests your skin and as an added bonus, serves as a great primer for make up!

Sun protection is the key to ageless skin and is the last step of the skin care ritual. No matter the season or the weather, it is advisable to wear a sun block over your moisturizer(with the exeption of multi-tasking moisturizers that already contain sun block).I don’t prefer one brand or another, necessarily, but I do stress the importance of physical sunscreen vs chemical. Check the ingredient list and look for active mineral ingredients, such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. Physical blockers work by sitting on top of the skin to deflect and scatter damaging UV rays away from the skin,- much better scenario than in chemical sunscreens that absorb the damaging rays and transform it into heat.

Maintaining a glowing skin is easy, If  you follow these steps. Trust me, your skin will thank you!
