Body acne and how to treat it

backIt’s already hard enough when you have to deal with acne on your face, but dealing with acne on your body is another story.

For some of us, skin breakouts can be more far reaching than the face, influencing bigger territories of the body. It normally happens on the back, midsection, neck, shoulders, and upper arms. We spend most of our AM and PM skincare regiment concentrating on the face, neck and décolletage. It is time we start paying attention to our back and work on getting the skin on our back “summer-ready”.

Back acne, simply called bacne, can be very hard to fix. There are a lot of products that are acne fighting and work really really well on the face, but your back does not respond as well to them. Even though the root causes of blemishes are basically the same in both places (face and back), skin on your face is very different from the skin on your back.

The skin on the back is thicker than the skin on the face which means the back is more resilient, can handle stronger treatments and exfoliants that would be considered too harsh for the face.

Here are some of my favorite products that are more specialized and easy to use in the shower:

• Biologique Recherche P50 Corps– the gentle retexturizingformula is great for eradicating pores, smoothing away rough patches, and boosting hydration levels. It balances skin PH and regulates oil production,-perfect for treating your back and the whole body

• Gounjae Charcoal Sulfur Soap– amazing handcrafted  barsoap from South Korea. Charcoal sulfur soap targets oily and troubled skin

Environ B-Active Sebuwash Cleanser– a foaming, gel cleanser that gently removes excess oils and environmental debris without drying the skin. Great for oily, problematic and congested skins and with the help of Tea Tree oil and Salicilic Acid it’s perfect for combating stubborn blemishes on your body

• Environ Multivitamin Body Moisturiser– with high concentration of Vitamin A, C and E and antioxidants, leaves skin revitalized, radiant, even toned and smooth
• Environ Dermalac Lotion– contains AHAs for use on rough, congested skin

Baudelaire Cedar Bath Brush– perfect,100% boar-bristles whole body brush that stimulates circulation and speeds up acne healing

• Morihata Binchotan Charcoal Body Scrub Towel– removes toxins and excess oil and leaves the skin revitalized and refreshed

Aquis Exfoliating Back Scrubber– helps improve skin texture and reduces bacne. It deep cleans and polishes that hard to reach back side, improves circulation and skin tone, all while removing impurities
• Lightstim for acne– soothes, heals and prevents new acne from forming while healing existing breakouts

Quick Lifestyle tips:

– The shorter the time between exercising and showering, the better for your skin. No shower access, no problem. Sensibio H2O Wipes by Bioderma are awesome for cleansing on the go

– Wear loose, breathable, clean clothes
– Use mild, fragrance-free detergents
– Clean up your diet and remember to hydrate

Combination of these products and tools will leave bacne no chance!

Frequent traveler skincare must-haves

I have been extremely lucky to continuously feed my passion for travel and I enjoy sharing stories from my adventures with the clients. One question that always comes up is how do I manage to keep my skin looking good and healthy while traveling. In this post, I would like to share my skincare secrets catered to frequent travelers’ needs.

When traveling, the skin can become rather dehydrated and flaky, not to mention that added stress associated with travel interrupts normal skin’s functions and leads to stubborn breakouts. To avoid that, my first tip is to always prepare your skin the night before.

Treat yourself to a balancing masque such as Vivant by Biologique Recherche and apply an intense moisturizer to soothe and condition the skin. My moisturizer of choice is Dermopurifiante for its restorative and purifying properties.

I advise to always travel with thoroughly clean and moisturized skin. Makeup is a no-go unless you are a fan of nasty breakouts.

Travel smart with your skincare must-haves on hand. These are the products that I need to have in my kit at all times:

  • Keep your skin and your body hydrated.
  • Moisturize before the take-off and freshen up your skin with every hour while in flight. L’eauxygenate.
  • Opt up for mineral water in lieu of a tropical cocktail.
  • Apply lip treatment liberally. 3LAB Perfect Lips offers intense and long-lasting hydration and it is my lip balm of choice.
  • Don’t forget your hands! Slather on hand cream such as Lippman Collection Rich Girl SPF25 for instant hydration and sun spots protection wile high in altitude and more exposed to damaging sun rays.

Upon arrival, it is good to give your skin a thorough but gentle cleanse. I use Lait VIP O2 with a soft washcloth and I prefer to cleanse twice. Follow up with a thorough application of P50 1970 and a masque of your choice for 15-20 min. I choose to use a combination of Vivant with VIP O2 all over my face when I feel that my skin needs purifying. If flakiness/dullness is an issue, a massaging masque to improve microcirculation, such as Prime Renewing Pack by Valmont, is a life saver! Tip: Leave it overnight for an instant beauty boost.
As a result of a long haul flight, we are left with puffy and tired looking eyes. I suggest to use eye contour gel masques, such Gold Energizing Eye Recovery Mask by Chantecaille or Cellcollagen Eye Treatment Mask by Cellcosmet,-it acts as an automatic wake up call.

Get out there and build on your experiences, try new things and be adventurous!

There you have it- with these simple steps you can arrive at your destination and enjoy your vacation with beautiful, glowing and well-rested skin!

On a subject of Multi-Masking

With increasing stress and pollution levels, most people no longer fit into just one basic skin type, making combination skin types more common and the sophistication of treatments more complex. Skin changes with the seasons and, with it, you need to adapt your regimen; simply using one mask to fix it all is not enough.

Here are some solutions:

Biologique Recherché products have been my go-to for years now and having some of the BR masks in your at-home arsenal will prepare you to tackle whatever your skin has in store for you this season!

Masque Vivant is beautiful all around.I like using it in the t-zone for the multi-masking purpose, and it works on all skin types! It contains high concentrations of yeast, cucumber, and witch hazel extracts that give it purifying and balancing properties.

Masque VIP O2 is magical! Having an oxygenating effect, it is hydrating, radiance revealing and amazing for reducing dullness and fatigue in drier, stressed out skin. I like using it under and around the eyes. The formula is rich in moisturizing botanical ingredients and contains an Oxygenating Complex which stimulates epidermal regeneration and revitalizes the skin. Quick tip: use a pea size of Masque Vernix; apply it on the lips for immediate dryness reduction.

Masque Biomagic is also great for an instant lift! It can be used all over before a night out for its purifying and tightening properties and can also be applied on the chin and forehead during a multi-masking session. It is an energizing face treatment formulated with a subtle combination of mineral and terrestrial ingredients. It leaves the skin glowing, soft and purified.

For the Valmont admirer, Renewing Pack is nothing less than excellent! I save it for the night before special events or as a Sunday quick, pick-me-up treat. It’s rebalancing formula gives the skin an instant beauty boost! A Renewing Pack could be used in combination with the Purifying Pack and Clarifying Pack for the multi-masking purposes. Application varies based on your specific skin needs.

Having at least three of these masks in your medicine cabinet can give you a customized facial treatment at home any time you crave it!

Remember, everyone’s skin is unique! Use masks in the areas needed with a benefit in mind or use all over and your skin will thank you! I hope the multi-masking will become as integrated part of skincare maintenance for you as it did for me.

We all are familiar with the #wokeuplikethis selfie trend that took the internet by storm. How do celebrities and people alike look so radiant first thing in the morning? Is it possible? Maybe it’s all photoshop and Instagram filters, but I am here to let you in on a little secret of how to look glowing first thing in the morning.

The way you look in the morning depends on how many zzz’s you got the night before. Most medical professionals recommend 6-8 hours of restful sleep to feel and look great the next morning. While you sleep, your body and skin restores and regenerates, and that is one of the primary reasons to take care of your skin before you get to bed.

That being said, what you do prior to getting to bed is also very important. Here are my evening skin care routine steps:

  • I try  to  cleanse my face as soon as I get home. This assures a good start to my “evening at home” and gives my skin a break from daily make up. I like to use Environ Pre-cleanse oil to remove my make up, followed by Lait VipO2 to cleanse my skin. I prefer to use a simple wash cloth as my cleansing tool. For people who enjoy cleansing devises, I recommend Luna Foreo for it’s simplicity and anti-bacterial benefits.
  • Evening time is when I give my skin as much TLC as I possibly can. I like to concentrate on more thorough P50 1970 application and either do a masque or a booster such as MC110. My go-to masque combo is Vivant and VipO2, both by Biologique Recherche. On the days my skin looks tired, I spend about 10 minutes massaging my face with soothing, plumping and hydrating Renewing Pack by Valmont. A lot of my clients are curious how one finds time for a masque treatment. I always say, time is not an excuse, time is what you make of it. I can go around prepping my dinner or doing household chores with the masque on my face still knowing I am working on improving my skin. At the end of the day, multi-tasking is essential for our busy lifestyle and addresses  most skins concerns. I strongly encourage you to find the time for the things that are important to you and your health.
  • I am passionate about serums! In my opinion, serums are most important when it comes to taking care of your skin. Depending on the concern, serums can be very versatile. I like to use Biologique Recherche  Renovateur14 and Complexe Royal together and layer Silk Plus over my Dermopurifiante moisturizer as a finishing serum. Now you finally begin to imagine the glow one wakes up to with that combination!
  • A couple of times a week I take time to roll my face with the Environ Roll-Cit. This simple procedure takes about 5 minutes and restores skin tightness, reduces pigmentation, smoothes fine lines while boosting product penetration by about 80%. Just imagine how much more effective your serums and peptide-based products are when you deliver it to the areas that need it most! On the nights I roll, I enjoy using Avance Peptide cream mixed with Avst 5 and C-Boost,-all by Environ.
  • Your body is also in need of some TLC. Take a relaxing bubble bath! I love using Santa Maria Novella body line, Bagnoschiuma Alghe Marine bath foam with seaweed extracts is one of my favorites and after the bath I prefer using  Latte Corpo Melograno– moisturizing and refreshing body milk with a signature Melograno aroma- for soft and supple skin.

Lifestyle suggestion: try to skip a heavy dinner too close to your bedtime and opt out for a light, healthy snack and a cup of calming tea. Give your digestive system a break and wake up less bloated and more energized. Taking a 15 minute walk outside or doing a mild exercise routine can also induce a more restful sleep.

Last but not least, try to disconnect from all of the tech devices at least an hour prior to sleep time. Give your eyes a break from all the bright screens and read your favorite book instead or catch up on all the latest fashions in magazine articles. For those who keep a diary, I enjoy and recommend the Happiness Journal concept for setting intentions or to simply write down your daily thoughts, reflect on the day and plan for a better tomorrow.

I really hope this inspires you to take better care of yourself and your skin at night time! I encourage you to try and give your skin more of the TLC it deserves and carve out time for it. Better off, take on the #wokeuplikethis trend yourself and watch your skin improve day after day.

My NYC weekend highlights

NYC is the city of dreamers and one place in the US that puts a huge smile on my face every time I visit. In my opinion, New York City is the most cosmopolitan, culturally advanced and super easy to get by in. I am convinced, every single time I am in NY, I see the city with the brand new eyes.

This weekend I visited NY for work related seminar. Even though the reason for my travel kept me indoors for 8 hours a day, I still found ways to explore and venture out during my free-time.

First and foremost, if you are in NYC,- WALK IT!  Don’t cab, lyft, uber, just take the city by foot! So much to discover walking the city’s streets! You could walk the same street twice and unravel something new both times! I certainly see why people in the city are so fit, the first night we walked 3 hours straight up and down Manhattan looking for treasures!

Speaking of treasures, NY makes me feel like Indiana Jones! The first night we got lost searching for Jacques Torres hot chocolate place(ah-mazing btw,get the Wicked kind!) but in the process discovered this amazing gems and fossils gallery on 5th ave called Astrogallery.  Oh man, it captivates you! You enter the space in awe and you leave it in awe. slideshow_1

“Considered the world’s most established gem and mineral gallery, Astro Gallery of Gems is located in the heart of New York City across from The Empire State Building. Our 10,000 Square Foot showroom has thousands of minerals, gems, fossils and pieces of rare and unusual jewelry on display.

We have a long and rich company history, as we have been dealing in fine minerals since 1961. Through the years Astro Gallery has catered to clients like Salvador Dali, John Lennon, and Shirley MacLaine and always remained a vanguard of the industry. We carry specimens suitable for the novice as well as the most advanced collector. We have everything from tumbled stones to 2000lb amethyst geodes.”

These are the type of stores I look for, something unique and different from anywhere else.

Food in NYC is rich in variety. every block houses at least three restaurants. We enjoyed the Cask bar and kitchen on our first night there. The Lamb nachos are must-try!cask-atmosphere-new-19-683x1024

“Cask Bar & Kitchen harks back to a by-gone era. One of craftsmanship and authenticity. Of dimly lit encounters, great conversation & hand drawn ales.”

The Momosan ramen and sake happened to be two blocks down from the hotel we stayed in, so it was a no-brainer lunch spot. Interior is simple but comfortable, service is fast and food is delicious! Highly recommend the customizable lunch special. I enjoyed tonkotsu ramen and zuke don rice bowl. The tuna was out of this world refreshing and the broth in my ramen was hearty and filling. Just look at this plate presentation! YUMMmomosan-11957

The rest of the time was spent roaming through the streets, sniffling Le Labo, devouring cupcakes at the Grand Central.

Even though it was one short weekend and a work-related trip, I still managed to have fun and enjoy every minute. And that is what travel is all about in my opinion: every minute should be spend in discovering and trying something new.

Do you make your work trip into an adventure?
